What is the ruling on one who does not verbally glorify the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him—out of ignorance—believing that glorification is for Allah alone, while he glorifies the Prophet within himself? And is he considered an apostate, knowing that he repented and uttered the two testimonies of faith?

The person has not committed an act of disbelief as long as they revere the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and their respect for him is not a disparagement. Their belief that greatness belongs to Allah alone is undoubtedly true; it is the greatness of sovereignty and might, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah the Almighty says: 'Pride is My cloak and greatness is My wrapper. Whoever competes with Me in either of them, I will cast him into the Fire.'" A distinction must be made between the obligatory glorification due to Allah Almighty (glorification of submission and humility) and the obligatory glorification due to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him (glorification of following, obedience, and support). Exaggeration and extravagance in verbal glorification are prohibited, as he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians exaggerated in praising 'Isa ibn Maryam. Indeed, I am only a slave, so say: 'Allah's slave and His Messenger.'"
