If the charity organization is trustworthy, it is permissible to authorize it to pay the expiation to those who are deserving and to transfer the money to it. The amount of food required by the Shari'ah is half a Sa' (approximately 1.5 kilograms) for each needy person. Its monetary value cannot be precisely determined due to variations in time, place, and type of food. One can inquire about this from the charity organization.
