Is it permissible for a traveler to fast while performing Umrah?

Fasting during travel is permissible if it does not entail hardship, based on the hadith of Hamzah ibn 'Amr Al-Aslami. However, if fasting causes hardship, it is preferable to break the fast, based on the hadith of Jabir, in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is not righteousness to fast during travel."
