The question

What is the ruling on money spent and saved? Am I obligated to do anything with it if I did not reach a strong presumption of the impermissibility of my work except after coming across your fatwa? Is it permissible for me to remain in the appointments department and donate the salary for the days in which I am involved in appointments from my income, knowing that the appointment period does not exceed 20 or 30 days during the year? Does the ruling differ if I only appoint men and someone else appoints women?

The answer

The earnings you acquired from the aforementioned work constitute mixed funds, not entirely prohibited. Only the portion corresponding to the forbidden work is unlawful, and you must dispose of it by spending it on public interests and charitable causes.

If your spending and saving occurred before you had a strong presumption of any part of it being unlawful, then you are not required to dispose of it.

You must abandon this work and seek another job free from religious prohibitions, as long as you are able to do so. As for the one in dire need, it is permissible for them to continue while diligently searching for another lawful source of income and donating the equivalent value of the portion corresponding to the forbidden work.

It is not permissible to participate in the appointment of men or women to mixed-gender positions, as the mixing of genders is forbidden for both.
