What is the ruling on sodomy in general, and specifically during Ramadan, and what is considered sodomy?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Sodomy is a grave sin and an abomination forbidden by Allah and His Messenger. Committing it in is even more prohibited and carries a harsher penalty due to the sanctity of the month. If it occurs during the daytime, it is even more severe as it spoils the fast and violates the sanctity of worship, necessitating the greater expiation ( kubra). It does not matter if it happened for a short time; it is all a reprehensible crime and an ugly abomination, deserving of disgrace in this world and torment in the Hereafter for its perpetrator. Anyone who engages in sexual pleasure with a person of the same sex is considered a sodomite.
