Is it a condition for the one who lowers the deceased woman into the grave—whether he be a stranger or a mahram—to be ritually pure (not having had intercourse with his wife)? And does the ruling differ if the deceased is a man? And is it permissible for a woman to lower the deceased? And is it permissible for the wife to wear pure red undergarments? And does leveling the grave mean that its height should be one hand span?

There is no impediment for a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) to descend into the grave to place the deceased. However, it is preferable for the person handling the preparation of the deceased to be in a state of ritual purity (tahir). It is a condition that the person in charge of the deceased's affairs be of the same gender as the deceased, or one of their unmarriageable kin (mahram (definition)). As for wearing red clothing, scholars have differed regarding its permissibility. The preponderant opinion is that there is no objection to a wife's inner clothing being red, as it is usually not seen by anyone other than her husband.
