What is the ruling on dog competitions, whether they are beauty contests or deer hunting races, with or without fees?

It is forbidden to pay money for dog beauty contests or dog shows, because stakes (money paid for winning a contest) are only permissible in what has been explicitly stipulated by Islamic law. Dog contests without fees are a form of amusement and frivolity, and owning dogs for this purpose is forbidden.

It is not permissible to own dogs except for purposes that have been permitted by Islamic law. Spending money on their upbringing and beautification is foolishness and extravagance. Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: "Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for hunting or a dog for herding livestock, two Qirats will be deducted from his reward every day." Dogs are impure, and their impurity can only be cleansed with seven washings, one of which must be with earth.

As for dog racing to determine which is faster, it is not permissible, whether with compensation or without, because it is foolish, and because it involves raising and owning dogs for purposes not permitted by Islamic law, and also because it involves imitating the disbelievers.

A Muslim is commanded to preserve wealth and not squander it. Whoever Allah has blessed with extra wealth should spend it on his family, his household, the poor among Muslims, and on scientific and da'wah (Islamic propagation) projects. He will be questioned about his wealth on the Day of Judgment.
