What is the duration for shortening and combining prayers for a traveler in the following two cases: 1. If he traveled for medical treatment without intending to reside [there], and stayed for more than ten days or a month? 2. If a group or an individual stopped in a city before their destination and it coincided with the time for Friday prayer, do they pray Friday prayer or do they shorten and combine Dhuhr and Asr?

It is permissible for a traveler to avail himself of the concessions of travel (shortening and combining prayers) unless he intends to stay for four full days. And whoever has a task whose completion time he does not know, may shorten and combine prayers even if he stays for months, as long as he does not intend to stay for four days. A traveler is not obligated to attend the Friday prayer, but he may attend it and combine the 'Asr prayer with it, shortened.
