Does watching pornography invalidate one's ablution (wudu')?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Watching pornographic films is forbidden and is considered a grave sin if accompanied by lust and fear of temptation, due to the psychological illnesses it leads to, hardening of the heart, disinterest in what is lawful, and emboldening one to commit immoral acts and sins. Persistence in watching them may lead to masturbation or adultery.

One must hasten to repent from it because it destroys morals and corrupts youth, and grave sins are expiated only by repentance.

Failure to lower one's gaze exposes the blessing of sight to removal, leads to falling into immorality, darkens the heart, exposes one to God's wrath and displeasure, and makes it easier to commit other sins, along with the punishment that awaits the perpetrator in the afterlife.
