Is a Muslim man living in America obligated to force his children to stop listening to music, to avoid participating in the holidays of disbelievers, and to refrain from mixing with women, or should he overlook these matters for the sake of the fundamental tenets of the religion?

Parents should strive to raise their children upon faith and obedience by supplicating for them, teaching them religious matters, and providing good guidance from a young age. They should also direct them towards righteous company and a wholesome environment. Effort must be made to prevent them from causes of corruption, using gentleness and leniency mixed with some firmness. If gentle methods and guidance are ineffective in preventing them from violating Islamic law, then there is no harm in using reprimand and discipline, while considering what is most beneficial.
