What is the ruling on the actions of the husband and his mother, represented by inciting the husband not to spend on his wife and children, leaving them without money, and refusing to buy the wife her necessities under the pretext that she is not beautiful, knowing that the wife is employed, in debt, and pays for the nursery expenses?

If the reports are true about the husband's mother interfering to ruin the relationship between the spouses and inciting him not to spend [on his wife], then this is forbidden in Islamic law. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "He is not of us who incites a woman against her husband." The wife's maintenance is obligatory upon her husband, even if she is wealthy, as Allah Almighty says: "And upon the father is their provision and their clothing according to what is reasonable." The husband sins by not spending if he is able to. The husband should not inform his mother about their private life affairs as long as this is her state, in order to close the door to problems.
