The ruling on taking pictures with a phone in general, for animate beings, is a matter of scholarly disagreement. As for taking pictures specifically during Umrah, a Muslim should avoid it to devote themselves to worship and excel in it, to achieve perfect sincerity, and to distance themselves from the impurities of showing off and seeking reputation and self-admiration.
