What is the ruling on pursuing more than one recitation (khatmah) of the Quran at the same time?

It is better for a Muslim to continue reciting the Qur’an until he completes it, so that he can read all of it within the period specified by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The righteous predecessors used to begin reciting the Qur’an and then complete it, keen on attaining the reward of the "hal-al-murtaḥil" (one who starts anew upon finishing).
