Is the niqab considered to be among the things about which the Lawgiver remained silent, as stated in the hadith: "What Allah has made lawful is lawful, and what He has forbidden is unlawful, and what He has remained silent about is pardonable, so accept Allah's grace"? And is it, therefore, not obligatory?

The hadith, "What Allah has made lawful is halal, and what He has made unlawful is haram, and what He has remained silent about is pardoned," has been declared hasan (good) by some scholars and da'if (weak) by others. Covering the face does not fall under what Allah has remained silent about; rather, it has been enjoined in the Qur'an and Sunnah, and thus uncovering it has become unlawful.
