Is chatting on Facebook while fasting considered forbidden?
Men chatting with men or women chatting with women is permissible in Islamic law, as long as it does not include forbidden speech and does not affect the validity of the fast. However, it wastes the fasting person's time in Ramadan and distracts them from worship. Excessive chatting may lead to what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade: obscenity, clamor, and ignorance. It is more befitting for a Muslim to occupy themselves with worship and the remembrance of Allah in this blessed month.
