What is the duty of Muslims towards offending the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and is the response limited to boycotting? And is apologizing to a Christian friend for a post offensive to their religion, and removing it from social media, considered a betrayal of the Messenger or an acceptable behavior? And what are the controls for publishing religious materials on social media that might anger friends from the People of the Book?

Defending Islam and the Prophet, peace be upon him, is an obligation upon every Muslim. This includes believing in him, obeying him, supporting him, spreading his Sunnah, refuting accusations against him, and effective boycotting can be used. A Muslim must do what he can, and he must seek forgiveness for what has emanated from him. He may publish refutations of misconceptions through websites and email. As for accompanying non-believers, it carries great danger. The Prophet, peace be upon him, forbade accompanying non-believers and commanded that a person be upon the religion of his close friend, so do not accompany anyone but a believer. The refutation of misconceptions should be spread with wisdom and good admonition.
