Is expiation (fidyah) obligatory for someone who intended to perform Umrah from Riyadh, then stayed four days in Ta'if, then went to Mecca in a state of ihram from Ta'if and not from the Miqat?

Whoever intends to perform the rituals of Hajj or Umrah is not permitted to pass the Miqat without entering into a state of Ihram. If one does so, a sacrifice (dam) becomes obligatory upon him. The Miqats were designated by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: for the people of Medina, Dhul Hulaifah; for the people of Sham (Greater Syria), Al-Juhfah; for the people of Yemen, Yalamlam; and for the people of Najd, Qarn. These Miqats are for them and for anyone else who passes through them, even if not from their respective regions, if they intend to perform Hajj or Umrah. If they do not pass the Miqat, then nothing is obligatory upon them. However, if they pass it and then enter into Ihram after crossing it, a sacrifice (dam) becomes obligatory upon them, which must be slaughtered in Mecca and distributed among the poor of the Haram.
