Is it permissible for a wife to take action regarding her husband's repeated physical abuse, insults, constant swearing of divorce upon her, preventing her from visiting her family, insulting her father, and threatening her with divorce if she disobeys his orders?

The Sharia encourages spouses to treat each other kindly, and likewise, it encourages good relations with kin. Watching pornography is a great evil, and if the wife advises her husband to quit it, he should thank her. He is not permitted to abandon her unless she is disobedient (nashiz) according to the regulations of legitimate abandonment. The husband does not have the right to prevent his wife from connecting with her family or communicating with them, and she is not obliged to obey him in this because it is an order to commit a sin. It is preferable for her to contact them without his knowledge to avoid conflict.

If the situation persists and the wife is harmed, she has the right to seek divorce, but she should not resort to it until all other solutions have been exhausted. All parties should strive to reconcile disputes, as Allah Almighty says: "There is no good in much of their secret counsel except for him who enjoins charity or good or reconciliation between people." And as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Shall I not tell you of something better than the rank of prayer, fasting, and charity? They said: Yes. He said: Reconciling disputes, and ruining relations is the shaver (destroyer)."
