What is the ruling on collecting money for a sick person who wants a kidney transplant?

Collecting money to help the sick is a righteous act. If the patient is unable to cover the expenses of treatment, and funds are collected to cover the costs of surgery and treatment, and not to purchase a kidney, then this is permissible.

However, collecting money to buy a kidney from another person is not permissible in Islamic law, as selling human organs is forbidden. But if there is an urgent necessity, and the kidney donor refuses to donate it except in exchange for money, then the matter is subject to scholarly interpretation and consideration. In such a case, collecting money for this purpose might be permissible, based on the principle that necessities permit the otherwise forbidden.
