What is the position of Islamic law, and how can the problem of linguistic assimilation for Muslims in the West be overcome?

Accustoming oneself to speaking languages other than Arabic is disliked and blameworthy, because it is an imitation of non-Arabs, and because the Arabic language is the شعار (emblem/distinguishing mark) of Islam and the language of the Quran. Knowledge of it is obligatory for understanding the Book and the Sunnah. It is necessary to accustom children and the youth to speak in Arabic, because habitual use of a language affects the intellect, character, and religion. Emulating the righteous predecessors of the Ummah further enhances this. Among the ways to achieve this are: speaking Arabic in homes and gatherings, enrolling children in Arabic schools, establishing courses for teaching Arabic, and continuously listening to the Quran and Islamic lessons in Arabic.
