Can the living hear the voices of the dead in their graves, whether they are being tormented or are in bliss?

After death, the deceased transitions to the realm of Barzakh. It has been established in authentic Ahadith that the deceased speaks while being carried for burial and in his grave, but no living person hears this speech, except for what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, specifically exempted.

In the first instance (carrying the funeral bier): Everything hears the voice of the deceased except humans. If a human were to hear it, he would faint.

In the second instance (in the grave during torment): Everything hears the cry of the tormented deceased except the two weighty ones (humans and jinn).

Among humans, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is exempted, for he used to hear the torment of the grave.

Scholars have elucidated profound wisdoms behind humans not hearing the torment of the grave, including: - Covering for the deceased and his family. - Not disturbing them. - Not embarrassing them. - The fact that belief in the torment of the grave is part of believing in the unseen, not in what is witnessed.

As for anyone who claims to hear the dead, or see them, or converse with them, he is either a liar or has been deceived. What he sees or hears is merely from the jinn and devils who assume the forms of the deceased for him. Their falsehood can be exposed by reciting Ayatul-Kursi and seeking refuge in Allah from Satan.
