What should I do about the intense anxiety concerning the future that afflicts me, especially at night, despite my attempts to adhere to prayer and Qur'an recitation after embracing Islam?
We congratulate you on the blessing of embracing Islam and enjoying prayer and reading the Quran. We advise you to be diligent in performing the obligatory prayers on time and to increase in supererogatory prayers (nawafil), because prayer is the greatest of Islam's obligations and a light for the servant, and supererogatory prayers bring the servant closer to his Lord.
What you feel of anxiety and fear concerning the future is caused by Satan's attempt to divert you from guidance and to sadden you, but this does not harm the believer. You should frequently read the Quran and remember Allah Almighty, especially the morning and evening remembrances, those upon sleeping and waking, and upon entering and leaving the house, while also purifying the house from anything that prevents angels from entering.
Know that the future is in the hands of Allah Almighty, so your fear of it will not change it. Occupy yourself with what benefits you and have good expectations of Allah, for He is as His servant expects Him to be. Expect from Allah that He will honor you, have mercy on you, and make you happy in this world and the hereafter, because He loves His righteous servants, and you are new to Islam and have few sins. So, rejoice in a good life, as Allah Almighty says: "Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do." (An-Nahl: 97).
