Touching the Mus'haf (copy of the Quran) with impurities is unlawful (haram). If done with the intention of disrespect, it constitutes disbelief (kufr). Impurities include ritual filth (najasa) and clean but repulsive substances like saliva, mucus, and sweat. It is better to avoid touching the Mus'haf with anything that soils it, even if it does not transgress, especially if it is ritually impure, out of reverence for the Mus'haf. There is no harm in reusing a towel to dry a wet hand that touches the Mus'haf, and there is no need to wash hands frequently unless they are dirty. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (waswasah) is a disease that must be treated.
