What should a wife do regarding her husband who has started denying many matters of the religion after they moved to a place where there are Christians, especially since they have children who need care, and she has no other refuge?

We advise the wife to strive in rectifying her husband and helping him achieve righteousness, and to move to a place where there are righteous neighbors if possible. If moving is not feasible, then she should protect him from temptations and strengthen his connection with his Lord, encourage him to keep good company, attend lessons of knowledge and gatherings of remembrance, while persistently supplicating for his guidance.

If that does not help, and he remains negligent in his obligatory duties or commits major sins, then it is preferable for her to separate from him by divorce or khul'. However, if he denies something known to be an essential part of the religion, then this is apostasy that expels one from the fold of Islam, and it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to remain with him. She must refer his case to the judiciary to separate them if his apostasy is proven.
