Is it permissible to marry a girl who committed adultery once and then repented, and how can one ascertain her repentance? And if the girl is pregnant as a result of adultery, is it permissible to attribute the newborn to himself while knowing its father, and does the hadith "The child is for the bed" apply to him? And if the newborn is female, does he become a mahram to her by marrying her mother, and does the hadith "Every flesh that grew from unlawful earnings is destined for the Fire" include her?

A Muslim is not permitted to marry an adulteress unless she has repented and undergone the period of istibra' (waiting period to ascertain non-pregnancy). If she repents, she is treated like any other woman. The child born of adultery is not attributed to the adulterer but only to its mother, and the adulterer is not allowed to claim him as his own. If a man marries an adulteress and consummates the marriage with her, her daughter (born of adultery) becomes unlawful for him. The child born of adultery does not bear the sin of the adulterer. The hadith (definition) "Flesh that grew from unlawful earnings shall not enter Paradise" refers to ill-gotten wealth.
