Is it permissible to masturbate as an alternative to watching pornography if one is unable to curb lust through prayer, fasting, and seeking refuge from Satan?
Masturbation and looking at obscene films are forbidden. One must resolve to stay away from them. Marriage is the most effective means to achieve chastity. For those who cannot marry, they must practice self-restraint, as Allah commanded in His words: "And let those who find not [the means for] marriage abstain [from sexual relations] until Allah enriches them from His bounty." And they should fast, for it is a shield for them.
One must also occupy their time and avoid thinking about marriage. A girl should ask her guardian to present her to one of the righteous young men, and the dowry should be made easy. It is permissible for a man to offer his daughter to someone whose goodness and righteousness he believes in, even if he is already married.
One should also make abundant supplications, such as: "O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency," and "O Allah, purify my heart and fortify my private parts," and "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my seeing, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my seminal fluid," and "O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord and Master of everything, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul, and from the evil of Satan and his polytheism."
