What is the ruling on commencing events and occasions with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran?

Opening school broadcasts, conferences, or meetings with the recitation of the Holy Quran is not a Sunnah. Scholars have agreed that consistently doing so falls under innovation (bid'ah) in religion. However, if the recitation is a suitable introduction to the topic of the lecture, then it is permissible. It is forbidden to open with the Quran if the matter being opened is prohibited or disliked, as this exposes the word of Allah to desecration.
