He must repent sincerely and perform many good deeds. If he repents and returns to Islam, then that is good and blessed. But if he does not repent, then it is not permissible for you to remain with him, as the marriage contract is annulled by his apostasy. If he returns to Islam during the waiting period (iddah (definition)), you will return to him with the original marriage. As for hitting and slapping the face, it is forbidden and indicates bad character. We advise you to be patient and strive to solve the problem. It is not permissible for you to leave the country where your husband resides except with his permission. If your husband falls short in his duty towards you, do not fall short in your duty towards him. Resorting to the Shariah judge is permissible when necessary.
