How should a wife behave with her husband who curses religion and the Lord when he is angry?
If the husband curses Allah or the religion, his action is a major disbelief (kufr akbar) that expels him from the fold of Islam, by scholarly consensus, unless the anger was so severe as to rob him of his awareness. If the husband commits an inexcusable act of disbelief, the marriage contract is annulled, and it is not permissible for the wife to remain with him. She must refer the matter to a Sharia judge. If the husband repents and returns to Islam before the expiry of the wife's waiting period ('iddah), some scholars hold that the marriage remains valid without renewing the contract. The wife is advised to strive to reform her husband and encourage him to repent, attend scholarly gatherings, and associate with righteous people. If this is not effective, she should refer her matter to the Sharia judiciary and seek divorce or annulment.
