Is opening a men's hair salon that serves alcohol permissible or forbidden?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Working in a men's barbershop is permissible in principle. As for working in a place that serves alcoholic beverages, if the suitor directly sells or serves them, then his work is forbidden and his money is illicit, which must be disposed of, due to the hadith: "Allah has cursed wine, its drinker, its server, its seller, its presser, the one for whom it is pressed, its carrier, and the one to whom it is carried." However, if his work is permissible and has no relation to alcohol, then his work is permissible, though it is recommended for him to seek another job free from objectionable things. The criterion for choosing a husband must be his religiosity and piety, according to the hadith: "If someone whose دين (religious commitment) and خُلق (character) you are pleased with comes to you, then marry him."
