What is the interpretation of the verses from Surat An-Nisa, starting from the Almighty's saying: (So what is [the matter] with you [that you are] two groups concerning the hypocrites, while Allah has made them fall back [into error] because of what they earned) up to His saying: (and over those We have given you a clear authority), and is there a reason for the revelation of these verses?

The verses discuss the hypocrites and the disagreement among the Companions regarding how to deal with them, clarifying that Allah returned them to disbelief because of their deeds. They warn against befriending them until they emigrate in the way of Allah; otherwise, they must be fought wherever they are found. The verses exclude certain categories: those who join a people with whom you have a covenant, those who do not wish to fight you or their own people, and those who desire safety from both parties but persist in their hypocrisy.
