Is the salary earned from working in banks considered unlawful (haram), and what is the ruling on a dowry paid from such money?
Working in riba-based banks is impermissible because it constitutes cooperation in sin and transgression, and the salary received from it is unlawful. Regarding what was paid from it as a dowry, no consequence attaches to its owner after his repentance, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever commits an error or a sin and then repents, that is its expiation." The salary from permissible government work is more blessed and beneficial.
