Is it permissible to take a fee in exchange for opening a cupping therapy center?

The jurists differed on the permissibility of the cupper's earnings, oscillating between dislike (makrooh) and permissibility (mubah (definition)), due to their varying interpretations of the reported Hadiths. Some Hadiths condemn the cupper's earnings, such as: "The earnings of a cupper are vile (khabeeth)," and "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade the earnings of a cupper." Other Hadiths permit it, such as: "Abu Taybah cupped the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he commanded that he be given a Sa' of dates," and "The Prophet (peace be upon him) was cupped and gave a reward to the one who cupped him; had it been unlawful, he would not have given it to him."

The majority of scholars reconciled these Hadiths by interpreting the prohibition as referring to dislike (karahah). This is because the Prophet (peace be upon him) was cupped and paid the cupper his wage, and because it is not permissible to feed slaves from that which is unlawful to eat. The dislike here pertains to the lowliness of the profession, not to the unlawfulness of the earnings. Accordingly, there is no harm in opening a cupping establishment, and the earnings received are not unlawful.
