"Does my uttering the words ""Talaq, Talaq, Talaq"" while acting out a divorce with my wife constitute a valid divorce, even though I had no intention of divorcing her? "

Praise be to Allah. If words are spoken for explanation or illustration without the intention of divorce, then divorce does not take effect, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Actions are judged by intentions."

Thus, a teacher or scholar explaining divorce rulings does not actually divorce their spouse when saying, "My wife is divorced," in an educational context. Similarly, if someone accidentally utters divorce without meaning it, it does not count.

For divorce to be valid, the person must intend both the wording and its meaning. Therefore, divorce does not occur when narrating another person's divorce, illustrating a legal scenario, or even calling out to a woman whose name is "Taliq" (which means "divorced" in Arabic).
