Why can't I repent to God easily, even though I am religious and belong to a group?
The door of repentance is always open, and Allah forgives all sins for whoever repents, believes, and does righteous deeds. To achieve this, one must turn to Allah with a sincere and remorseful heart, and frequently engage in remembrance (dhikr), seeking forgiveness (istighfar), and supplication (dua). Also helpful are performing obligatory prayers, associating with the righteous, and avoiding bad company. Repentance is an obligation for every Muslim, not a supererogatory act. One should not be deceived by outward religiosity, for the benefit lies in repentance, sincerity to Allah, and following the Sunnah of His Prophet.
