What is the ruling on naming a boy "Baraa" and a girl "Ru'a"?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no religious impediment to naming a child "Baraa'" or "Al-Baraa'," and indeed, some of the esteemed Companions were named thus. Similarly, there is no objection to naming a girl "Ru'a," provided the name does not involve servitude to other than Allah, or a claim of purity, or effeminacy, or names of disbelievers and their symbols.
