Is seeing one of the Prophets in a dream true, and that Satan does not impersonate them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Satan cannot take on the form of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in a dream. The hadith has confirmed this, stating that if a Muslim sees him in a dream in his known form, then he has truly seen him. Some scholars, such as Al-Baghawi and Ibn Taymiyyah, mentioned that Satan does not take on the form of any of the prophets or angels, even though there is no explicit text to that effect, except for what was narrated from Ibn Taymiyyah that in some narrations there is "in the form of the prophets," but this narration has no chain of transmission. Some researchers believe that Allah's preservation of His prophets implies that Satan does not take on their forms, and that the validity of seeing prophets in a dream is conditioned upon seeing them in their known form.
