Is severe poor eyesight considered a legal defect that necessitates the bride's family informing the suitor about it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Weak eyesight and bad breath are not considered defects that establish the option (of annulment or return) according to the majority of scholars. Ibn Qudamah narrated a consensus that weak eyesight is not a defect. As for bad breath, the Maliki, Hanafi, and Shafii schools, and one opinion among the Hanbalis, hold that it is not considered a defect that establishes the option. Some Hanbalis, however, maintained that it is a defect that establishes the option. The preponderant view is that bad breath is not a defect because it does not prevent enjoyment and can often be treated.
