The majority of scholars hold the view that the defects necessitating the annulment of marriage are those that prevent sexual intercourse or are repulsive and contagious diseases. They do not include bad breath among these. Some scholars, however, have held that it does necessitate annulment due to the repulsion it causes. There is also an opinion that broadens this to include any defect that causes aversion in either spouse and prevents the realization of the marriage's purpose, which is affection and mercy.
