Will the martyr in the cause of Allah be held accountable for the prayers he missed, whether he prayed sometimes and missed sometimes, or whether he never prayed at all before his repentance and jihad?

It is hoped that Allah will forgive the shortcomings of one who was a mujahid and regular in prayer, but sometimes neglected it, after his death as a martyr. This is because a martyr is forgiven all his sins between him and Allah, except debt, as stated in the hadith (definition): "Every sin of a martyr is forgiven except debt." And in another narration: "Dying in the way of Allah expiates everything except debt." The hadith of Abu Qatadah also mentions that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes, if you are killed in the way of Allah, while you are patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, except for debt."

However, if he was abandoning prayer entirely or abandoning it sometimes, then repented, strove, and was martyred, his repentance demolishes the sins that preceded it. One who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin; repentance transforms evil deeds into good ones. It is incumbent upon a Muslim to maintain prayer.
