What is the limit of immediacy (fawriyya) in making up missed prayers, and does it mean initiating ablution and prayer immediately? Is one who performs incidental tasks such as drinking water, checking their phone, or showering before making up the prayer considered sinful?

The majority of scholars hold that it is obligatory to make up missed prayers immediately, meaning by starting the make-up prayers whenever possible, and delaying without an excuse is sinful. Nevertheless, it is permissible to delay making them up for essential needs such as eating, drinking, bathing, relieving oneself, necessary sleep, or matters related to earning a livelihood, studying obligatory knowledge, and nursing a relative. The Shafi'is are of the view that for someone who missed a prayer due to an excuse, it is recommended for him to make it up immediately, but it is permissible for him to delay.
