Is the proposed analysis of the relationship between man and woman along the two axes of "Guardianship (Wilayah) and Maintainership (Qawamah)" (horizontal) and "Piety (Taqwa) and Knowledge ('Ilm)" (vertical) Islamically sound, considering the implications of conflating them on the role of both man and woman in society?

The perception of the superiority of men over women is generally correct. Men excel in endurance and rationality in dealing with problems. Allah has also singled them out for certain responsibilities, such as prophethood, judiciary, and jihad. However, this does not negate the existence of women who are superior to men in piety and knowledge, for true favoritism in the sight of Allah is based on piety and righteous deeds. The verse "And for men is a degree over them" does not mean that degrees are deserved simply by virtue of being male. As for guardianship (qawamah), it is for men due to their being favored with certain characteristics and their financial provision for women. If a man is unable to provide, a woman is entitled to seek annulment of the marriage.
