The stomach is the house of all illness, and diet is the head of all medicine. This is supported by the hadith: "No human ever filled a vessel worse than his stomach. A few bites are sufficient for the son of Adam to keep his back straight. But if he must fill it, then one third for his food, one third for his drink, and one third for his breath." As for what the mother mentioned, there is no evidence for it, and matters of the unseen are only known through revelation.
