The answer

Scholars have recommended shortening the sermon, while ensuring its words are comprehensive, to avoid undermining the admonition and to prevent tedious prolongation. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was granted comprehensive speech, and among his sayings is: "Indeed, the prolonged prayer of a man and the short length of his sermon are a sign of his understanding (fiqh), so prolong the prayer and shorten the sermon." Excessive prolongation of the sermon beyond the natural limit contradicts the and causes hardship for the worshippers. The sermon should be short and fulfilling its purpose, though it is permissible to prolong it sometimes out of necessity or to explain an important matter.
