Is it permissible to refer to the Virgin Mary as "Saint"?

The title "Saint" was not attributed to Mary in Islam; rather, it was attributed to her by Christians out of exaggeration and veneration, as stated in the Almighty's saying: (And [mention] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as [two] deities besides Allah?'") Al-Ma'idah/116. Mary was described in the Quran and Sunnah as the truthful, the virgin, and the devout. It is obligatory that we speak of her and of Jesus, peace be upon him, as Allah and His Messenger have spoken, without the exaggeration of the Christians or the disdain of the Jews, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: (O People of the Scripture, do not exaggerate in your religion) An-Nisa/171.
