Must I perform Hajj for myself first after I was compelled to perform Hajj on behalf of another before fulfilling my own obligatory Hajj?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Scholars differed concerning the ruling on a person performing Hajj on behalf of another before performing it for themselves. Some permitted it, while others did not, saying: The Hajj becomes obligatory for the performer themselves. Accordingly, the obligation is lifted from the performer according to the madhhabs of Al-Shafi'i and Ahmad, which is the preferred view, in contrast to Malik and Abu Hanifa. If you wish to avoid the differing opinions, then perform Hajj for yourself again. You are required to inform the one who appointed you that the Hajj obligation has not been lifted from them or their deceased, and that you must return their money if you have taken it.
