The question

Is the cessation of brown discharge sufficient as a sign of purity from menstruation, given the absence of the white discharge (al-Qassah al-Bayda’) and the fear of inserting anything to ascertain purity? And is yellowish discharge (al-Sufra) a condition for all women? How does a woman suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (waswās) ensure purity? And does the discharge of secretions after ghusl (ritual bath) from major impurity necessitate performing ghusl again?

The answer

The white discharge (al-qassah al-bayḍāʾ) is a white fluid that appears after menstruation, indicating its cessation. It is ritually impure (najis). Dryness (al-jufūf) means that the cloth is not stained with blood, yellowness, or turbidity. It is not a condition to insert the cloth deep into the vagina; rather, it suffices to place it at the vaginal opening. Inserting it deep into the vagina is disliked (makrūh). The woman should ascertain purity by one of these two signs. If she performs ghusl (ritual bath) and then it becomes clear that she had not yet achieved purity, she must repeat the ghusl once purity is confirmed.
