Is the form of prayer upon the Prophet, "O Allah, bless Muhammad the Prophet and his wives, the Mothers of the Believers, and his offspring and his household, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, indeed You are Praiseworthy and Glorious," established from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, or his Companions?

The hadith in which this formulation is mentioned has a weak chain of transmission (Isnad), and its pivot is Hibban ibn Yasar, who is debated, and who became confused in his old age. Furthermore, its chain contains discrepancies and other defects. The authentic narration in this regard is that found in Sahih Muslim, from Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari: "O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You have blessed the family of Ibrahim. And bestow Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You have bestowed Your blessings upon the family of Ibrahim in all the worlds, for You are indeed Praiseworthy, Most Glorious."
