How can one practically get rid of homosexuality, bearing in mind that he has not engaged in sexual acts and wishes to stop watching inappropriate images?
Falling into sin has a harm that extends beyond the punishment in the Afterlife to include this world. Among its remedies are:
1. Sincere repentance and recourse to Allah: Regretting the sin and frequently supplicating and insisting to Allah for forgiveness and aid, as substantiated by His saying, the Almighty: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" (Az-Zumar: 53).
2. Upholding faith: Faith protects the servant from what is unlawful, and when a believer falls into sin, they quickly come to their senses, as confirmed by His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, those who fear Allah—when an evil thought from Satan touches them, they remember [Allah], and suddenly they become aware." (Al-A'raf: 201).
3. Marriage: If you are able, it is better for lowering the gaze and guarding one's chastity, as confirmed by the Prophet, peace be upon him: "O young men, whoever among you can afford to marry, let him do so, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding one's chastity. And whoever cannot afford it, let him fast, for it will be a shield for him." Do not fear poverty, for Allah enriches from His bounty.
4. Fasting: If marriage is not feasible, fasting is another solution, as it protects from being carried away by desires and cultivates willpower and patience.
5. Lowering the gaze: Avoid looking at forbidden things that incite desire. "Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do." (An-Nur: 30).
6. Recalling the testimony of the body parts: Remember that your body parts will bear witness against you on the Day of Judgment for what you did: "Until, when they reach it, their hearing and their sight and their skins will testify against them of what they used to do." (Fussilat: 20).
7. Avoiding seclusion and solitude: Fill your time with righteous deeds like reciting the Qur'an, remembrance of Allah (dhikr), and prayer.
8. Avoiding bad company: Keep company with good people who remind you of Allah and help you obey Him.
9. Prompt repentance: If you fall into sin, do not persist but hasten to repent. "And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins—and who can forgive sins except Allah?—and do not knowingly persist in what they have done." (Al Imran: 135).
Do not despair of Allah's mercy, for He forgives all sins for whoever repents to Him.
