We want a brief overview of the life of Imam Al-Shafi'i.

Imam Al-Shafi'i was born in Gaza and grew up as an orphan in poverty. He memorized the Holy Qur'an and the prophetic traditions (Hadith), and excelled in language and poetry. He sought knowledge in Mecca from its jurists and Hadith scholars, then migrated to Medina to seek knowledge from Imam Malik. He memorized Al-Muwatta' and recited it to Malik. Al-Shafi'i moved to Yemen and became its governor. He was then brought to Baghdad due to an ordeal, after which he returned to Mecca, then Baghdad, where he authored "Al-Risala" (The Message) on the principles of Islamic jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh). He then moved to Egypt and passed away there in 204 AH at the age of 54. Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal praised Al-Shafi'i, describing him as being "like the sun to the world and like health to the body."
